Please Send me a Postcard

Allentown, Pennsylvania. Before this postcard I had only heard of Allentown from a Billy Joel song [take that as you will] – so this postcard comes from the Frank DeFreitas Antiquarian Holographica Collection, in West Allen Street, Allentown, Pennsylvania which is right here.

So this postcard celebrates the 50th anniversary of the invention of the laser, 1960 – 2010 which is actually next year but let’s quibble on such a fact! The postcard has no name on it, so I don’t know who to thank. It also has no tip so I must assume the tip is, “Go visit Frank’s Collection!”.

I made a little video to read the back but the camera seems to be back to front, anyone know how to fix that?

OK so I’m a few days late from bonfire night but here it is anyway (there’s less than a year ’til the next one). This one comes from Lewes in East Sussex, yet another place in the UK I haven’t visited. This postcard also comes with the photographer’s name ‘Ian Cumming‘ (no sniggering at the back!)

Now if you look at the picture closely, that looks like houses on the right. So was this a bonfire or street riots? Hmm, I’m not so sure about visiting after all. The postcard was sent in from Robin [thanks!] with this tip.

Do not visit Lewes on Bonfire Night if you are of a nervous disposition!

Looking at this picture one may add, “don’t visit if you don’t want your car overturned and used a burning barricade. Too harsh?

Our second postcard comes from Paris and yet again has a food theme. Jordan’s postcard suggested eating a Baguette ‘en plein air’ this one has a restaurant recommendation. The postcard is an official one from Cafe du Flore but recommends a bistro called Chez Fernand. I have Googled Chez Fernand and this is the link which I have been told is correct.

Strawberry Soup? I’ve heard of Pesto Ice Cream but this is a new one on me, must try it. Thanks!
