A bonfire postcard from Lewes, UK

November 11th, 2009

OK so I’m a few days late from bonfire night but here it is anyway (there’s less than a year ’til the next one). This one comes from Lewes in East Sussex, yet another place in the UK I haven’t visited. This postcard also comes with the photographer’s name ‘Ian Cumming‘ (no sniggering at the back!)

Lewes Bonfire

Now if you look at the picture closely, that looks like houses on the right. So was this a bonfire or street riots? Hmm, I’m not so sure about visiting after all. The postcard was sent in from Robin [thanks!] with this tip.

Do not visit Lewes on Bonfire Night if you are of a nervous disposition!

Looking at this picture one may add, “don’t visit if you don’t want your car overturned and used a burningĀ barricade. Too harsh?

Thanks Robin for sending this one in.

A postcard from Rye, East Sussex, UK

October 20th, 2009

This is a nice postcard. It is from Rye in East Sussex. The front of the postcard shows some nice scenes (Rye is yet another place I have never been.)

A postcard from Rye, East Sussex

The scenes are (clockwise from top left):

  1. Mermaid Street
  2. Lion Street
  3. The Mint
  4. The Old White House Windmill

Onto the tip, sent in from Jenny & Tone (thanks!)

Greetings from historic Rye. Our travel tip: Hotels and guest homes will put the photos of their best rooms on their site – check what you are getting to avoid disappointment! (We have an avocado bathroom suite circa 1982!)

With the ’80’s back in fashion I am surprised they weren’t charged a premium for the bathroom suite! Oh well, hopefully it didn’t spoil their trip. Thanks for sending a postcard.
